Algonquin Park & Barron Canyon

Only twenty minutes from Pembroke is one of Canada's most famous natural assets. This northeast entry leads to the Achray Campground on the shores of Grand Lake which features Algonquin's newest backpacking trails (6km and 15km loops) and to the spectacular 100m deep Barron Canyon. A 1.4km day trail leads along the rim of the Park's most breathtaking river gorge. This east side of the features spectacular landscapes and is more rustic and free of crowds compared to the access points along Highway 60.

White Water Rafting

The Ottawa Valley is considered a world-class white water paddling destination that attracts thousands of rafters, kayakers and canoe trippers each year. Wilderness Tours also offers white water rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, sea kayaking, bungee jumping, sportyaking and canoe tripping in period voyageur canoes. For more information call 1-800-267-9166. Owl Rafting also offers white water rafting excursion. Call 1-800-267-8506.

Snowmobile Trails

Winter in the Ottawa Valley means lots of snow and crisp temperatures - perfect snowmobiling weather for sledding enthusiasts. There are over 2,400km of groomed local and Trans Ontario Provincial (TOP) trails winding through picturesque villages, along abandoned rail beds, past old mine sites and through ghost towns. The Timberline Snowmobile Club grooms and maintains approximately 160 kilometres of scenic trails in the Upper Ottawa Valley. Their trails range from wide farmers fields to scenic bush trails and everything in between.

Pembroke is Hockeytown Canada

Pembroke is officially designated "Hockeytown Canada." With three native sons inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and dozens having played in the NHL, hockey is an important part of Pembroke's identity.

The renowned Pembroke Lumber Kings take to the ice at the Pembroke Memorial Centre (PMC) Sunday nights at 7:00 pm from September through March. The Kings are the longest running, winningest team in the Central Junior 'A' Hockey League.

November and early December Pembroke plays host to the Silver Stick Minor League Hockey Tournament, the largest tourney of its kind in North America, bringing hundreds of children and youth to the region to compete. Silver Stick is the first of many hockey tournaments held in the Pembroke-Petawawa area throughout the winter

Chutes Coulonge Park

Experience the breathtaking scenery of the magnificent waterfalls and canyon. Explore the Coulonge Falls on well maintained pedestrian trails, footbridges, and lookouts. The recently opened aerial park offers a series of high intensity zip lines guaranteed to appeal to thrill seekers. The 280-metre long and 20-metre high zip line is the first part of a half a million dollar tourism development installation at Chutes Coulonge.

Pembroke Heritage Murals

Celebrate the area's rich character and heritage through large-scale paintings on an ever-increasing number of the city's downtown walls. Since the first five murals were painted in 1990, more than twenty new murals by both local and national artists have been added. Pick up a brochure and explore the Murals in downtown Pembroke.
